The AJP PR7 is what happens when a Portuguese enduro shop builds an adventure bike the way rally racers do: one cylinder, a 4.5-gallon tank tucked under the seat, a nav tower up front and long-travel ZF Sachs suspension at both ends. It weighs about what a big dirt bike does and goes about as far as a big adventure bike does.

AJP Motos has built enduro and supermoto bikes in Lousada, northern Portugal, for more than thirty years. The PR7 is their one long-distance machine, and the 2027 is the most worked-over version yet.

Off the two-track.

The idea

Rally weight, not touring weight.

Putting the fuel under the seat drops the heaviest thing on the bike down low and leaves the front narrow, like a rally bike. Cycle News weighed one at 373 pounds with a full tank — roughly a hundred pounds lighter than the lightest twin-cylinder adventure bikes.

That is the whole point: it’s easier to pick up, easier to ride through a sandy wash, and it still has the range for a long day — Cycle News figured 200-plus miles.

The engine

A 600 single that pulls from the bottom.

A 600cc DOHC four-valve single with Athena fuel injection, electric start, a six-speed and a counterbalancer to calm it down. The “650” in the name is marketing; the engine is a 600.

For 2027 AJP redesigned the airbox and the GPR header to fatten low- and mid-range pull — the part of the rev range you actually use on a loose climb.

The suspension

Long travel, fully adjustable.

A 48 mm ZF Sachs closed-cartridge fork with 11.8 inches of travel and a ZF Sachs shock on a linkage with 11 inches. Both adjust for everything. The Gold Edition, a special order, swaps both ends for Öhlins.

Brembo brakes, a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear on Michelin Tracker tires — dirt-bike sizes, so tire choice is easy.

Where it fits

Utah is basically one long dirt road.

The PR7 is built for the miles between trailheads: graded roads, washboard, sand, the long way around. It won’t ride tight singletrack like a 300 two-stroke, and it isn’t a freeway cruiser. Everything in between is its job.

A black one is on our floor in Centerville. Come sit on it — the 36.2-inch seat is the first thing to check.

Straight talk

What we'd tell you in the shop.

The part a brochure leaves out.
  • It’s sold in the US as an off-road motorcycle. Some states will let you register one for the street; ask us what Utah requires before you count on plates.
  • The seat is 36.2 inches. Tall for a lot of riders — sit on ours first.
  • No ABS, no ride modes, no traction control. Cycle News found the rear brake easy to lock on steep, rocky descents.
  • It’s a single: buzzier than a twin on the freeway, with a small screen. Short highway stretches are fine; long ones are work.
  • AJP doesn’t publish a horsepower figure. Buy it for weight and range, not top speed.
  • The 2027s are order-in through CPD. We confirm price, color and delivery before you put money down.
  • MSRP from AJP’s 2027 US retail price list, before destination, setup, tax, title, fees and current tariff rates. We confirm your price before you put money down.
Questions

Questions we actually get.

Is it a 650?

No — the engine is 600cc. “650” is part of AJP’s model name.

Can I see one?

Yes. A black PR7 is on our floor in Centerville right now.

Who backs it in the US?

Central Powersports Distribution in Marshall, Texas, AJP’s US importer since 2023 (the same company that brings in Rieju). Parts and warranty run through them and us.

What’s the Gold Edition?

Öhlins suspension front and rear, with gold accents. It’s a special order — ask us for the price and timing.

Street legal?

It ships as an off-road bike. Whether you can plate it depends on your state; we’ll tell you what Utah needs before you buy.
